Sebastien Bourdais zelf verantwoordelijk voor crash

Scuderia Toro Rosso-coureur Sebastien Bourdais is de enige die schuld heeft aan de zware crash van gisteren op het Circuit de Catalunya. De Fransman schoot in bocht 9 van de baan en kwam hard in aanraking met de bandenstapels. De linkerkant van de nieuwe STR3 was volledig kapot, wat de Italiaanse renstal ook voor problemen stelde.

Zo kon Sebastian Vettel vandaag niet in actie komen omdat de schade te groot was om ter plekke in Barcelona te repareren. Maar het kan nog erger worden voor Scuderia Toro Rosso en Bourdais, bericht Auto Motor und Sport. Engineers van het team gaan nu onderzoeken of de monocoque beschadigd is en mocht dat zo zijn, dan komt het geplande racedebuut voor Turkije in gevaar.

Telemetrie wees uit Bourdais met 253 kilometer per uur reed toen hij van de baan raakte. Teambaas Franz Tost blijft er laconiek onder: Hij ging gewoon veel te snel door die bocht. Dat kan gebeuren, het hoort bij de autosport.
