EU stelt onderzoek in naar Grand Prix in Valencia

De Europese Unie (EU) gaat een onderzoek instellen naar eventuele overtredingen die gemaakt zijn door de organisatie van de allereerste Grand Prix in de straten van Valencia. Dat meldt de milieucommissaris van het Europese parlement, Stavros Dimas.

De milieubeweging Verda had eerder al een formeel protest ingediend tegen de gang van zaken in Valencia. Zo zou de organisatie zand uit een beschermd milieugebied gebruiken voor de bouwwerkzaamheden aan het stratencircuit.

Dimas gaf ook aan dat de autoriteiten in Valencia er tot dusver niet in geslaagd zijn om de cijfers over de verwachte geluidshinder te overleggen aan de Europese Unie. De eerste Formule 1-race in de Spaanse havenstad moet op 24 augustus plaatshebben.
