VT2: Kimi Raikkonen gaat beide Renaults vooraf

Ferrari-coureur Kimi Raikkonen heeft de eerste dag van de Grand Prix van Spanje op zijn naam geschreven. Vanochtend was hij al de snelste in de eerste vrije training, zojuist sloot hij ook de tweede sessie op de eerste plek af. Hij was wel flink langzamer dan vanochtend. Toen werd hij nog gevolgd door teamgenoot Felipe Massa, nu eindigde diens landgenoot Nelson Piquet jr. als tweede. De vernieuwde Renault was op dreef, want Fernando Alonso besloot de training als derde.

De top van het klassement kende meer opmerkelijke namen. Beide coureurs van zowel BMW Sauber als McLaren stonden aan het einde buiten de top tien, achter Giancarlo Fisichella en Adrian Sutil van Force India. Ook Willliams deed het uitstekend met twee coureurs bij de beste zeven tijden. Red Bull Racing-coureurs Mark Webber en David Coulthard klokten respectievelijk de zesde en achtste tijd.

Vanochtend was het Felipe Massa die ongeconcentreerd aan de sessie begon, Lewis Hamilton deed dat in de tweede training. De McLaren-coureur schoot in zijn eerste snelle ronde rechtdoor bij bocht 1 en spinde enkele ronden later in zijn eerste run in bocht 10. Teamgenoot Heikki Kovalainen had ook problemen. Hij parkeerde zijn MP4-23 twintig minuten voor het einde aan de kant met een technisch probleem.

Scuderia Toro Rosso heeft het vooralsnog moeilijk in het laatste weekend van de STR2. Sebastian Vettel klaagde voortdurend over veel onderstuur en had in bocht 9 diverse keren meer asfalt nodig dan er ligt. De Italiaanse renstal kan ook niet tevreden zijn met de achttiende plek van Vettel en de negentiende tijd van Sebastien Bourdais. Alleen Toyota-coureur Timo Glock en beide Super Aguris waren langzamer.

Ferrari is anderhalve seconde langzamer dan \'s ochtends. Die zijn dus, zoals de meeste teams, bezig geweest met de race setup.
Renault lijkt zich volgens mij te concentreren op het behalen van Q3.
Wel een enorm verschil tussen Ferrari en McLaren en BMW overigens ...

Het is wel nog maar de training, maar toch...Ik hoop op een rood weekendje maar heb een gevoel dat de McLaren roet in het eten gaat gooien..
