McLaren verwacht blessureloze Kovalainen snel terug

Het team van McLaren werd vanmiddag tijdens de Grand Prix van Spanje opgeschrikt door een zwaar ongeval van de Finse coureur Heikki Kovalainen. Door een probleem met zijn linkervelg kwam hij hard in aanraking met de bandenstapel. Met zo een 250 kilometer per uur schoof de snelle Fin onder de bandenstapel. Na een minutenlange benaderde situatie onder de banden werd de coureur uit de bolide gehaald door stewards en medici. Na aan korte check-up op het circuit werd Kovalainen met een helikopter naar het ziekenhuis vervoerd.

In bocht negen ging het mis in ronde 22. McLaren Formule 1-directeur Martin Whitmarsh is hoopvol over Kovalainen en verwacht hem snel terug op de baan. Whitmarsh: "Hij heeft geen zichtbare blessures, maar natuurlijk heeft hij zijn hoofd gestoten en nu wordt hij naar het ziekenhuis vervoerd om zijn hersenschudding te bekijken."

Martin Whitmarsh vervolgt: "Hij klaagde over pijn aan zijn elleboog, maar dat lijkt me normaal. Er zijn verder geen problemen met andere blessures zichtbaar. Dat is goed. Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat als hij terugkomt na de check-up hij er over twee weken weer bij kan zijn."

Over de oorzaak van de crash kan de McLaren-directeur nog niet veel zeggen: "Natuurlijk hebben we nog niet veel data. Opeens zagen we de band leeglopen, toch geloven we niet dat het specifiek een bandenprobleem is. Er is wat bewijs dat de velg in aanraking kwam met de band."

Lewis Hamilton reageerde in de persconferentie kort op de crash van Kovalainen: "Het kwam mij erg bekend voor. Het leek heel erg op de crash die ik had in de Nürburgring vorig jaar, zoals ik het op de tv-beelden zag. Ik vond het vervelend omdat ik niet goed kon zien wie er stond in de bandenstapel. Ik hoorde het even later van het team. Nu ben ik blij om te horen dat het goed met hem ging."

Lelijke klapper van Kovalainen, en uiteindelijk na lang wachten toch de Fin lmet het duipje omhoog gezien.

Jeses wat een klap ik schrok mij het apenlazerus maar het schijnt goed af te komen.
En hij doet het voor mij heel goed in die mercedes mijn favoriet bij McL
