BMW laat Sauber voorlopig niet vallen

Het BMW Sauber-team heeft ontkend dat het plannen heeft de teamnaam te veranderen. Het zou volgens geruchten verder willen als BMW en zou daarvoor de naam Sauber willen laten vallen. De geruchten staken de kop op aangezien BMW steeds dichterbij de ultieme snelheid komt die nodig is om wereldkampioen te worden. Volgens Mario Theissen is hier echter niets van waar.

Theissen: "Ik ben heel kalm onder dit verhaal. We hebben er nog niet opnieuw naar gekeken, maar als we dat zouden doen, zou dat om marketing-redenen zijn. Het is altijd ons doel geweest om expliciet de merknaam BMW naar voren te brengen. Om die reden is de ruimte voor sponsoren op onze auto ook beperkter dan bij andere teams."

Voorlopig gaat het team dus nog verder onder de naam BMW Sauber F1 Team.
