Heikki Kovalainen wacht op betere tijden

Het zit McLaren-coureur Heikki Kovalainen dit jaar nog niet mee. Qua snelheid kan hij zich meten met teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton, de Fin beleeft tot nu toe echter een ongelukkig seizoen. Zo was hij in Australië de dupe van de safety car-regels, crashte hij in Spanje zwaar door een kapotte velg en moest hij in Turkije al vroeg een pitstop maken vanwege een touché met Kimi Raikkonen.

Kovalainen blijft positief. Er zit nog veel meer in het vat voor me. Ik verbeter me continu. Het seizoen verloopt tot nu toe vrij goed, maar ik weet zeker dat ik nog beter kan. Dat is ons doel en daar werken we keihard aan. We willen onszelf constant naar een hoger niveau brengen. Ik wil niet speculeren over wat had kunnen zijn. Ik vraag me nooit af wat had kunnen gebeuren als. Turkije ligt achter me en nu richt ik me volledig op Monaco.

De Fin heeft het geweldig naar zijn zin bij McLaren. Ik ben heel blij om bij dit team te mogen rijden. Ik weet ook al veel meer dan ik aan het begin van het seizoen wist. En er komt nog meer, stap voor stap gaan we voorwaarts. Ik was eerlijk gezegd verbaasd hoe snel ik me in de winter aanpaste aan dit team en deze auto. Ik pas goed in deze omgeving en dit is echt mijn team.
