Hamilton opgetogen door snelheid in Monaco

McLaren-coureur Lewis Hamilton is in zijn nopjes na de eerste dag van de Grand Prix van Monaco. De Engelsman domineerde de tweede vrije training en zette met een 1:15.140 de snelste tijd van de dag neer. Hamilton toonde zich zeer tevreden met de snelheid van zijn MP4-23: De auto voelde meteen geweldig en ik kon vanaf het begin een hoog tempo rijden.

De vice-kampioen van 2007 vervolgt: Ik hou echt van Monaco en geniet van elk moment dat ik me op de baan begeef. Het circuit veranderde gedurende beide trainingen en we hebben een goede stap gezet met de afstelling en de bandenevaluatie. De eerste oefensessie heb ik op één setje banden afgewerkt. We zijn er nog lang niet, maar ik geniet van onze vroege snelheid en nu moeten we werken om dat vast te houden.

Teamgenoot Heikki Kovalainen was met een derde en een vijfde plek ook in de voorhoede te vinden, maar hij kon de snelheid van Hamilton niet evenaren. Aan het einde van de tweede sessie ging ik met een setje nieuwe banden en een andere afstelling de baan op, maar dat liep niet zoals we verwacht hadden. Daarbij was mijn ronde ook niet goed, dus ik weet zeker dat we nog genoeg ruimte voor verbetering hebben voor morgen.
