Donington Park overweegt bod op Britse Grand Prix

Donington Park denkt eraan om de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië over te nemen van Silverstone. Dat laatste circuit staat onder grote druk van Bernie Ecclestone, die zich keihard opstelt in de onderhandelingen om het na 2009 aflopende contract te verlengen.

Ecclestone zei zelfs dat Groot-Brittannië in 2010 het helemaal zonder Grand Prix moet stellen, maar daar wil Donington Park een stokje voor steken. Het circuit was in 1993 al eens gastheer van de Grand Prix van Europa, gewonnen door Ayrton Senna.

Circuiteigenaar Simon Gillet: Wat de Formule 1 betreft, we sluiten op dit moment helemaal niks uit. We zullen met iedereen praten over de mogelijkheden. Er kan nog veel gebeuren in drie jaar tijd, dus laten we alles maar rustig afwachten.
