Tijd begint te dringen voor Indianapolis

Indianapolis Motor Speedway-baas Tony George heeft nog maar weinig tijd om zijn circuit weer op de Formule 1-kalender te krijgen. De Amerikaan werkt hard aan een terugkeer van de Grand Prix van Amerika, maar de onderhandelingen mogen niet te lang duren. Nog twee maanden geeft hij zichzelf om tot een overeenkomst te komen.

George in Autosport: Onze kansen liggen nu op vijftig procent. Het laatste gesprek dat ik met mensen van de Formule 1 had, was in februari. Om alles goed te kunnen plannen willen we zo snel mogelijk weten of de Grand Prix deel uitmaakt van onze kalender voor 2009. De Formule 1 hoeft het nu nog niet te weten. Zij kunnen wachten tot augustus, september, oktober, maar voor ons werkt dat niet.

George is druk bezig met het bij elkaar krijgen van de benodigde financiële middelen. Het gaat niet gebeuren als wij niet meer commerciële steun krijgen, een titelsponsor of zoiets. Er zit nog steeds een gat in de vereiste begroting en we zetten niet door tot dat is opgevuld.
