Massa verwacht heftige strijd tussen Ferrari en McLaren

Felipe Massa miste op een haar na de pole position voor de Grand Prix van Duitsland. In de slotfase moest de Braziliaan Lewis Hamilton voor zich dulden, maar eindigde nog wel voor diens teamgenoot, Heikki Kovalainen. Ook Raikkonen was langzamer dan Massa. Na zijn blamerende race twee weken terug op Silverstone wil Massa echter niet van een herstel spreken.

Massa over zijn kwalificatie: "Het was een erg spannende kwalificatie vandaag. Alles zit enorm dicht bij elkaar. De hele sessie is eigenlijk wel spannend geweest. Ook was het vanochtend in de derde vrije trainingen allemaal erg competitief."

"Morgen zal het net zoals vandaag tussen McLaren en Ferrari gaan denk ik. Eerlijk gezegd verwacht ik morgen een heftige strijd tussen de vier auto's van deze teams. Ik hoop dat we morgen in de race wel aan het langste eind trekken", aldus een hoopvolle Massa.

Desgevraagd vind de Braziliaan zijn tweede startpositie geen herstel ten opzichte van de slechte regenrace die hij in Engeland afwerkte. "Ik vind dit absoluut nog geen herstel ten opzichte van Silverstone. Dat was een incident. Wat ik in de pers hoorde dat ik een slechte regenrijder was, dat slaat natuurlijk nergens op gezien mijn eerdere prestaties onder dergelijke omstandigheden. Dit is dus geen herstel, dit is normaal. Ik ga door met presteren. Dit is waar we horen."

In 2006 eindigde Massa als tweede achter Michael Schumacher op de Hockenheimring in Duitsland. Het jaar daarvoor werd hij in de Sauber achtste.
