Force India houdt nieuwe versnellingsbak achter de hand

Het team van Force India heeft besloten om de nieuwe versnellingsbak niet in de VJM01 te monteren voor de Grand Prix van Hongarije. De Indiase renstal testte vorige week in Jerez met de seamless shift gearbox, ofwel naadloos schakelende versnellingsbak, maar acht de nieuwe bak nog niet klaar om een raceweekend mee te gaan.

Chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne legt uit: We maakten vorige week een heel succesvolle introductie van de nieuwe versnellingsbak mee en de coureurs waren er zeer over te spreken. Vanzelfsprekend willen we zo snel mogelijk met de nieuwe bak racen. We hebben echter nog meer testkilometers nodig voordat we hem inzetten voor een Grand Prix.

Vrijdag rijden we in de vrije trainingen op de Hungaroring wel met de naadloze versnellingsbak, zaterdag en zondag niet. Onze huidige versnellingsbakken zitten op drie van de vier verplichte races en mogen na de wedstrijd van zondag vervangen worden. In Valencia gaan we dan de nieuwe versnellingsbak gebruiken. Op die manier voorkomen we een straf en zijn we door meer testkilometers beter voorbereid op de volgende race.
