Trulli: "Liever gewone circuits dan stratencircuits"

Toyota-rijder Jarno Trulli is geen liefhebber van stratencircuits. De Italiaan waardeert de uitdaging van een baan door de straten van een stad, maar heeft toch liever een normaal racecircuit omwille van de betere veiligheid. Trulli en de rest van de coureurs hebben dit jaar nog twee stratencircuits te gaan, namelijk Valencia en Singapore.

Voor een coureur zijn stratencircuits uitdagend, want alles is anders, vertelt de Toyota-coureur op autosport.com. Je vecht niet met de kerbstones, maar met muren en vangrails. Je moet dus veel preciezer en voorzichtiger rijden en veel vertrouwen in je auto hebben. Een rijder moet zich volledig focussen om geen fouten te maken, want bij één foutje is het al gedaan.

Het enige echte probleem met stratencircuits is de veiligheid. Als coureur heb je gewoon geen uitwijkmogelijkheden en dat maakt het gevaarlijk. Monaco is dan wel relatief langzaam, maar een ongeluk zit in een klein hoekje. Ik weet niet hoe de veiligheid en snelheid bij de nieuwe stratencircuits geregeld is, maar de FIA (internationale autosportbond, red.) zal daar wel bovenop zitten. Als coureur en GPDA-directeur rij ik voor de veiligheid liever op permanente racecircuits.
