Tankinstallaties faalden niet in Hongarije

De Grand Prix van Hongarije werd gekenmerkt door enkele pitbrandjes. Bij Honda, Scuderia Toro Rosso en Williams verliep het bijtanken niet vlekkeloos en kwam er vuur aan te pas. De twee laatstgenoemde teams hebben nu laten weten dat het niet aan de tankinstallatie lag.

Williams-engineer Rod Nelson legt uit: Ons plan was een tweestopper, maar we gingen op pad met genoeg brandstof om voor één stop te gaan om de strategie indien vereist aan te passen. Omdat we nergens kans op maakten, besloten we om een gok te wagen.

We wilden Kazuki Nakajima met één stop de race laten uitrijden, maar dat betekende wel dat we tijdens zijn pitstop meer brandstof dan normaal moesten tanken. Door de benzinedruk vloeide wat brandstof terug de slang in en toen de slang eraf ging, spetterde die benzine op de uitlaat en vatte het vlam.

Scuderia Toro Rosso wil de precieze reden niet vrijgeven, maar het was niet de tankinstallatie, zo zegt een woordvoerster op autosport.com. Ik kan bevestigen dat het geen probleem met de tankinstallatie was. De oorzaak is inmiddels achterhaald en opgelost. Verder hebben we geen commentaar.

Kinderachtig van Toro Rosso dat ze niet willen vertellen wat het probleem was, nu denk ik dat er iets heel knulligs gebeurt is...
