Formule 1-teams vrezen invloed safety car in Valencia

De Formule 1-teams houden er sterk rekening mee dat de Grand Prix van Europa van komend weekend op het nieuwe stratencircuit van Valencia beïnvloed wordt door de safety car. De safety car-reglementen kregen dit jaar al heel wat kritiek te verduren, met name het feit dat de pitstraat pas open gaat nadat het hele veld achter de safety car is aangesloten.

En de kansen op een safety car zijn vele malen groter op een stratencircuit. Dus bereiden de teams zich voor op een chaotische race. Force India ziet juist mogelijkheden. Chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne zegt op autosport.com: Zeker voor een team als het onze biedt dit de kansen. De muur staat dichtbij en uitgevallen autos zijn niet zomaar opgeruimd, wat veel safety car-periodes op kan leveren. Misschien gaan we andere strategieën kiezen dan de rest van het veld, dat bestuderen we nog.

Red Bull Racing-rijder Mark Webber vreest de impact van een eventuele safety car. Jammer genoeg kunnen stratenraces tegenwoordig beïnvloed worden door de safety car, waardoor kwaliteit niet meer loont. Maar als je een minder weekend meemaakt kan het je ook helpen. De grootste angst is echter dat, als het wel goed gaat, je weekend verpest kan worden door de safety car. Races op stratencircuits zijn altijd onvoorspelbaar, maar door de huidige regels kan alle moeite in één klap teniet gedaan worden.

Dat is typisch stratencircuits, maar stel dat het een saaie race wordt *waar ik niet op hoop* wordt het veld wel weer steeds in elkaar gedrukt:D

Beetje jammer mr. Webber. Je staat meteen weer vooraan met je grote mond maar zegt eigenlijk niets. We weten wel dat een slecht weekend goed kan worden en visa versa. Je kunt wel merken dat die Webber teveel met Koelkast (Coulthard) opschiet. Hij begint net zo\'n zeur te worden. I.p.v. dat ie op het circuit eens echt wat goeds laat zien.

Door zulke coureurs ga ik een team als RBR toch minder waarderen. Beetje jammer toch, want Red Bull Racing kan veel en veel meer!
