Stratencircuit van Valencia brengt gemengde reacties

Veel coureurs zijn het na de kwalificatie met elkaar eens, de vooraf zo geroemde baan te Valencia zou bekend komen te staan om de vele inhaalmogelijkheden. Volgens de coureurs valt dat na drie testsessies en een kwalificatie vies tegen, al moet de race nog komen. Vettel en Barrichello maken publiekelijk bekend niet echt tevreden te zijn met de inhaalmogelijkheden.

Honda-rijder Jenson Button is juist wel erg tevreden over het circuit, maar haalt het onderwerp van het inhalen niet aan in het interview na de kwalificatie: "Ik vind het een heerlijk circuit. Er zijn hier een hoop langzame snelheid bochten, die zijn lastig maar erg leuk. Dat ligt mij wel. Ik vind het laatste stuk het heerlijkst van het circuit, maar de rechts-links combinatie. Die is werkelijk waar fantastisch. Ik geniet hiervan."

Zijn teamgenoot Rubens Barrichello uitte zijn bezorgdheid over het inhalen wel, logisch gezien zijn negentiende startpositie: "Het circuit is qua inhaalmogelijkheden absoluut niet zoals verwacht. Het valt me wat tegen, de mogelijkheden tot inhalen zijn hier klein, zelfs erg klein." Barrichello gaat nog een stapje verder met zijn pessimistische betoog: "Er is ook niet echt een recht stuk, je bent altijd aan het sturen bij het aanremmen. Dat maakt inhalen erg lastig. Ook is het erg glad als je buiten de lijn komt."

Scuderia Toro Rosso-coureur Vettel die de race als zesde zal aanvangen: "Ik volgde wat auto's tijdens de trainingen en ik denk dat het wel mogelijk is om in te halen hier, als is dat toch erg lastig. Het ontwerp van het circuit is toch erg lastig, dat had ik niet verwacht. Je kunt forceren om in te halen, maar dat is erg risicovol hier. Ik had meer inhaalmogelijkheden verwacht."

Of Barrichello en Vettel gelijk krijgen zal morgen door henzelf en de andere coureurs moeten worden bewezen. De race zal om 14.00 uur starten.
