Kubica: "Meer moeite met lange stints dan Ferrari en McLaren"

BMW Sauber-coureur Robert Kubica keerde zondag na vier races zonder top drie-finish terug op het erepodium. De Pool hield de eer van zijn werkgever hoog door als derde over de streep te komen. In de voorgaande vier Grands Prix was het een beetje behelpen. Kubica scoorde daarin zeven punten. Nu kon hij de rijders van Ferrari en McLaren weer volgen, maar meer zat er niet in.

Het verschil tussen zijn werkgever en de twee topteams is de snelheid in de langere stints. Kubica legt uit: In Hongarije begon ik ook op de tweede startrij en toen kon ik dat niet vasthouden. We doen er alles aan om bij de twee grote teams te blijven, maar die zitten ook niet stil. En we moeten realistisch blijven, ons tempo op zondag was een betere afspiegeling van de verhoudingen dan de kwalificatietijden.

We hebben gewoon wat meer moeite om de snelheid vast te houden in de lange stints. Op nieuwe banden zijn we snel en komen we in de buurt van Ferrari en McLaren. Maar zodra de banden ook maar iets van slijtage vertonen, dan begint de auto meteen te glijden en dan sta je als coureur machteloos.
