Dennis: "Valencia voorbeeld van wat kan met overheidshulp"

De Britse overheid moet eens goed kijken naar de collegas uit Spanje, vindt McLaren-teambaas Ron Dennis. Waar de regering in Groot-Brittannië geen hand uitsteekt om de Grand Prix in leven te houden, daar zorgen ze in Spanje gewoon voor een extra Formule 1-race in de straten van Valencia. Dennis: Dat toont aan wat je kan bereiken als je een lokale of nationale overheid achter je hebt staan die je volledig steunt.

De tirade van de McLaren-leider is nog niet voorbij. Ik schaam me eigenlijk dat ik Engels ben. Al die discussies over de kosten voor de Olympische Spelen van 2012 in Londen zijn ook belachelijk. Jammer genoeg lijken wij als volk het beste in alles negatief te bekijken en onconstructief kritisch te zijn. Ik weet dat deze commentaren ook weer de nodige reacties los zullen maken, maar dat maakt me niet uit. Het is de hoogste tijd dat iemand er eindelijk iets over zegt.

Ze moesten eens een kijkje gaan nemen in Valencia. Voor volgend jaar moeten ze daar de omgeving iets meer kleur geven, de haven dient vol te liggen met boten en het glimmer en glamour-gehalte moet omhoog. Maar ze zijn wel op de juiste weg. Dat vereist overheidshulp. Voor mij is Valencia een schoolvoorbeeld van wat mogelijk is als iedereen hetzelfde wil bereiken en zich daar ook volledig voor inzet.

Over hoeveel overheidssteun hebben we het hier en waaraan wordt het besteed?

Ben bang dat de persoonlijke bankrekening van de kleine dictator een groot deel van die overheidssteun op soupeert...
