Formule 1-toekomst Nurburgring in gevaar

De toekomst van de Formule 1-race op de Nurburgring staat op losse schroeven. Aanleiding daarvoor is de Deutscher Motorsport Bund (DMSB), die gerund wordt door de ADAC. De FIA gaat op een meeting 7 oktober aanstaande beslissen of de DMSB onderdeel blijft van de FIA.

Struikelblok voor de DMSB is de vermeende sexaffaire van FIA-president Max Mosley. De Duitse autosportbond heeft al eerder aangegeven dat het niet meer wil samenwerken met de FIA zolang Mosley er president is. Eerder kreeg Mosley het voordeel van de twijfel tijdens een meeting met alle autosportbonden.

Als de ADAC inderdaad dwars blijft liggen, kan de World Motorsport Council ervoor kiezen verder te gaan met de Automobil von Deutschland (AvD). Deze organisatie is eigenaar van de Hockenheimring (zie foto) en bovendien eigenaar van de naam "Grand Prix van Duitsland".

Bij een mogelijk verlies voor de DMSB zal het voor de ADAC moeilijker worden de race te blijven organiseren op de Nurburgring, ondanks het huidige contract waarbij de Duitse Grand Prix wordt afgewisseld met Hockenheim.
