Theissen: "Vrijdag Grand Prix-weekend omtoveren tot testdag"

BMW Sauber-teambaas Mario Theissen ziet twintig Grands Prix per jaar als het absolute maximum. Dan moet het testen wel nog verder aan banden worden gelegd. In ruil voor meer testrestricties dient de vrijdag bij een Grand Prix wel omgetoverd te worden tot een volwaardige testdag, zo oppert de Duitser.

Theissen: Dat zou ook logisch zijn, want we zijn dan toch al op een circuit aanwezig met al het benodigde materiaal. We zouden dan testen op een circuit waar we in het weekend op strijden voor de punten. Dat zou de resultaten ook interessanter maken. En bovendien bieden we in dat geval de fans meer waar voor hun geld. Zoiets heeft echter wel gevolgen voor de andere klasses die tijdens een Grand Prix-weekend in actie komen.

Naar mijn mening is twintig races per jaar absoluut de limiet, en dan moeten we het testen flink reduceren. Twintig is gewoon het maximum. Zelfs dan hangt het nog af van hoe de kalender wordt opgebouwd of het niet te zwaar wordt voor het personeel.
