België wil Grand Prix naar mei of juni verplaatsen

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van België is ontevreden met de huidige plek op de Formule 1-kalender. De race op Spa-Francorchamps kan veel beter in mei of juli verreden worden, zo stelt organisator André Maes in Het Nieuwsblad. De datum van dit jaar was ongunstig en is mede verantwoordelijk voor het miljoenenverlies dat de race noteert.

Maes legt uit: Begin september is de slechts mogelijke plek op de kalender. Niet alleen voor het slechte weer - al hebben we door de regen op zondag dit jaar 5.000 tickets minder verkocht aan de kassa - maar ook omdat het schooljaar begint en de vakantie er net opzit. De mensen hebben dus geen geld meer om aan de F1 te besteden.

Volgens de Belgische krant zou Bernie Ecclestone de Belgische Grand Prix best willen ruilen van plek met de Grand Prix van Frankrijk. Op die manier krijgt de race op Spa-Francorchamps zijn historische plek in de maand juni terug.
