Theissen: "Niet meteen te veel druk leggen op Vettel"

BMW-motorsport directeur Mario Theissen heeft Vettel gefeliciteerd na zijn winst in de Grand Prix van Italië. De jonge Scuderia Toro Rosso-coureur was sneller dan de McLaren-coureur Kovalainen en BMW-rijder Kubica. "Dit is een uitzonderlijke prestatie van Vettel. Het is erg knap wat hij heeft gedaan. Fantastisch hoor", zegt Theissen.

"Natuurlijk is dit nog maar de eerste keer, en de situatie was niet echt representatief voor het gehele seizoen, maar hij gaat goed nu. Het team in het algemeen is ook gewoon erg sterk. Toch is dit pas de eerste keer, ze moeten bij zijn nieuwe team niet te veel druk op hem leggen. We zullen zien hoe hij hiermee omgaat", aldus Theissen die gisteren zag dat niet alleen Vettel maar ook Bourdais sneller was dan zijn beide coureurs Kubica en Heidfeld.

Vettel was eerder in zijn carrière testcoureur voor BMW. De Duitser reed ook enkele races voor het team, waarin hij prompt zijn eerste WK-punten scoorde. Op dit moment staat Vettel negende in de stand om het wereldkampioenschap Formule 1. Vettel heeft nu 23 punten gescoord in 2008.
