Superleague Formula: Robert Doornbos wint eerste race

Robert Doornbos heeft vanmorgen optimaal gebruik gemaakt van zijn pole position en de eerste race van de Superleague Formula op de Nurburgring op zijn naam geschreven. Vlak na de start krijgt de Rotterdammer aardig wat druk te werken van ex-Formule 1-coureur Antonio Pizzonia, maar de Braziliaan kan het tempo niet volhouden en valt terug. Dit maakt uiteindelijk de weg vrij voor Doornbos om met de AC Milan-wagen de race te winnen. Craig Dolby (Anderlecht) en Doornbos' teamgenoot Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray) completeren het podium.

Antonio Pizzonia vecht hard voor de punten, maar moet zich uiteindelijk tevreden stellen met de zevende plek. De Superleague Formula-reglementen zeggen dat de startopstelling van de tweede race de omgekeerde volgorde is van de uitslag van race 1. Doornbos zal daarin dus achteraan starten, terwijl de eerste uitvallers, Enrico Toccacelo en Tuka Rocha, de eerste startrij zullen bezetten.

Doornbos is momenteel toch waarschijnlijk de beste coureur die Nederland heeft. Levert toch goed werk.
De tweede race achteraan gestart als laatste en als 6e over de streep gekomen. Is een mooi resultaat.
