Hamilton ziet Singapore als mix van Valencia en Monaco

Het nieuwe stratencircuit van Singapore bevat elementen van de twee andere stratencircuits op de Formule 1-kalender, namelijk Valencia en Monaco. Dat vindt McLaren-coureur Lewis Hamilton. De Engelsman won de Grand Prix van Monaco en eindigde in Valencia als tweede. Het vooruitzicht voor Singapore is voor de leider in de tussenstand dus goed.

Hamilton: Singapore lijkt erg op Valencia met de stenen muren naast de baan in plaats van de vangrails die in Monaco gebruikt worden. Maar het is hier wel smaller en we rijden niet rond in een haven. De baan is snel, maar bevat ook enkele krappe, langzame bochten. Inhalen wordt moeilijk, net als op de andere stratencircuits. Misschien dat het in bocht 1 kan, maar ik verwacht minder inhaalacties dan op normale racecircuits.

Desondanks reken ik toch op een spannende race. Puur omdat het een avondrace is. Dat is voor iedereen nieuw, niemand weet wat we moeten verwachten. Ik heb over de baan gelopen en dat geeft een eerste indruk, maar de eerste keer dat we hier echt rijden zal toch een nieuwe ervaring worden.

Ik zie ons niet in het voordeel ten opzichte van Ferrari, ik acht ons gelijkwaardig en niet meer. Zij gebruiken de banden anders dan wij. Ferrari heeft meer moeite met lage temperaturen, maar houdt de banden langer goed in een lange run. In Singapore beschikken we over de zachte en superzachte band en in Valencia hebben we gezien dat zij daar heel competitief op zijn. Maar wij waren niet veel minder, het wordt dus spannend.
