Kovalainen: "Fuji is een belangrijk circuit voor me"

Na een teleurstellende tiende plaats op het circuit van Singapore is het voor Heikki Kovalainen weer hoog tijd voor een topklassering. De Finse McLaren-coureur blikt met vertrouwen vooruit op de Grand Prix van Japan. Het was op het Fuji-circuit waar hij zijn eerste podiumplaats uit zijn carriere behaalde. Ik hou van Fuji, van Japan en ik hoop ook Tokyo te kunnen bezoeken, aldus Kovalainen.

De Japanse Grand Prix vorig jaar was één van die races waarin alles goed ging, herinnert Kovalainen zich nog goed. Mijn kwalificatie verliep niet al te best, ik startte slechts als twaalfde. Maar door geen fouten te maken, kon ik uiteindelijk met Kimi Raikkonen strijden om de tweede plaats. Dat was het hoogtepunt van mijn afgelopen jaar, zegt de Fin.

Verder legt hij uit dat het niet zon heel moeilijk circuit is. Er is geen bocht die cruciaal is voor een goede rondetijd. Het is relatief makkelijk om de bochten te begrijpen. Het is dan ook geen lastig of verraderlijk circuit, aldus Kovalainen.

Een goed resultaat wordt belangrijk voor de McLaren-coureur, die in de stand om het wereldkampioenschap de vijfde plaats bezet. Met 51 WK-punten staat hij er slechts vijf achter op BMW Sauber-coureur Nick Heidfeld en zes op wereldkampioen Kimi Raikkonen. Bovendien verdedigt McLaren een voorsprong van slechts één WK-punt in het constructeurskampioenschap.

Hoop \'t voor hem, in Hongarije won hij wel maar dat kwam door het uitvallen door de motor van Massa dacht ik. Vodafone McLaren Mercedes FTW!

ik vindt kovalainen echt niet zo goed. gebrek aan talent.
zelfs in een topwagen als mclaren weet hij bijna niets te presteren, waar andere het beter zouden doen.

oke toegegeven, hij is nog niet zo ervaren.
daarom geef ik hem nog het voordeel van de twijfel.

maar toch denk ik dat hij wordt zoals barrichello en coulthard.
een gedoemde 2de rijder dat 15 jaar meedraait in de f1.
maar nooit iets bereikt.
