Teams hopen op voortrekkersrol Formule 1 bij groene technologieën

De Formule 1-teams geloven dat de koningsklasse van de autosport een sleutelrol kan vervullen bij de zoektocht naar milieuvriendelijke manieren van transport. De internationale autosportbond FIA moedigt de renstallen ook aan om groene technologieën te ontwikkelen, te beginnen met de introductie van KERS (Kinetic Enegry Recovery System) in 2009.

BMW Sauber en Honda willen dat de Formule 1 een leidende rol bij nieuwe technieken op zich gaat nemen. BMW Sauber-teambaas Mario Theissen: In principe hopen we dat KERS slechts het begin van vele efficiënte technologieën is. Maar we moeten voorzichtig blijven en geen dingen doen die geen nut hebben. Het moet ook toepasbaar zijn op straatautos. We dienen zowel qua milieuvriendelijkheid als qua inspanning efficiënt te werk te gaan.

Honda-teambaas Ross Brawn: De Formule 1 moet zich absoluut concentreren op de introductie van meer op milieu gebaseerde regels in de toekomst. De ontwikkeling van hybride en warmte hergebruikende technologieën is een bewijs van de belangrijke rol die de Formule 1 kan spelen bij de totstandkoming van meer efficiënte, milieuvriendelijke systemen.
