Audi geeft Albers kans in American Le Mans Series

Christijan Albers neemt in het weekend van 18 oktober deel aan de seizoensfinale van het American Le Mans Series-kampioenschap op het circuit van Laguna Seca. Zijn DTM-werkgever Audi biedt hem die mogelijkheid. Albers gaat deel uitmaken van het Audi Sports-fabrieksteam dat rijdt met een Audi R10 TDI. De Nederlander krijgt de kans om zich te bewijzen voor een vaste plek bij het sportscar-team van Audi.

Ik ben enorm blij dat ik deze kans van Audi heb gekregen", aldus Albers, die op Luguna Seca een team vormt met de Italiaan Emanuele Pirro. Om met de Audi R10 TDI over Laguna Seca te mogen rijden, zie ik als een erg speciale beloning voor wat ik dit seizoen met Futurecom TME in de DTM heb gepresteerd. Ik hoop dat ik samen met Pirro de door Audi gestelde doelen kan verwezenlijken. Na zestien jaar in de autosport actief te zijn wordt dit een totaal nieuwe ervaring voor mij. Nog niet eerder heb ik met een sportscar geracet en nog niet eerder heb ik over Laguna Seca gereden.

Audi Motorsport-baas Wolfgang Ullrich: We willen in 2009 een verjonging doorvoeren in ons rijderkader voor de sportscars en Christijan Albers heeft dit jaar in de DTM een zeer goede indruk op ons gemaakt. Hij heeft absoluut de potentie om een zeer succesvolle sportscar-coureur te worden. Op Laguna Seca krijgt hij de eerste kans om zich te bewijzen.
