Scuderia Toro Rosso troeft Red Bull Racing wederom af

Het management van het Red Bull Racing-team kan niet blij zijn met de situatie dat het door hen geïnitieerde dochterteam met regelmaat sneller is dan de moeder renstal. Een aantal races geleden wist Vettel in naam van Scuderia Toro Rosso zelfs voor het eerst in de geschiedenis van de Red Bull-teams een race te winnen. De kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Japan gaf de trend een nieuwe impuls, beide Red Bull Racing-coureurs kwamen niet in de top tien voor, terwijl beide Toro Rosso's wel deelnamen aan de top tien kwalificatie. Coureurs van Red Bull Racing, Coutlhard en Webber waren verschillende gestemd na afloop van de kwalificatie.

Mark Webber die zich op een dertiende plaats kwalificeerde kwam er niet aan te pas in het tweede deel van de kwalificatie: "Vandaag was ik simpelweg niet snel genoeg. Dan ga je niet door, zo hoort dat. Morgen zal het daarom erg moeilijk worden. Maar het is terecht dat ik niet door ben, ik voelde dat ik snelheid tekort kwam en pushte teveel in het tweede deel van de kwalificatie. Ik had geen recht op meer vandaag," aldus de zelf kritische Australiër.

David Coulthard, die voor het laatst op Japanse bodem kwalificeerde in een Formule 1-bolide was beter dan Webber en wist zich op een elfde stek te kwalificeren. Coulthard over zijn kwalificatie: "Elke ronde die ik vandaag reed in de kwalificatie was eigenlijk wel foutloos te noemen. Ik vind dat ik een goede kwalificatie heb gereden, ik heb er alles uit gehaald. Mijn laatste ronde was ook goed, maar ik verknalde het in de laatste bocht. Ik kwam met veel snelheid in de bocht, maar uitaccelererend was het niet goed, ik nam te weinig snelheid mee op het rechte stuk. Ik kon helaas niet meer uit deze auto halen. Het zat allemaal erg dicht bij elkaar en toch kan ik redelijk tevreden zijn."

In het constructeurkampioenschap is Toro Rosso Red Bull Racing reeds voorbij gestreefd. Vettel en Bourdais hebben gezamenlijk 31 punten verzameld in 2008. Coulthard en Webber brachten er 28 binnen voor Red Bull Racing.

En dit is nog meer vuur om iedereen te laten \"adviseren\" aan Vettel om bij Toro Rosso te blijven. Toch denk ik dat het succes bij Toro Rosso grotendeels aan Vettel zelf ligt en dat hij Red Bull volgend jaar weer voorbij Toro Rosso kan tillen.
