Williams-sponsor in de moeilijkheden door kredietcrisis

Williams-sponsor Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is in de problemen geraakt door de financiële crisis die de wereld in zijn greep houdt. De bank wordt waarschijnlijk overgenomen worden door de Britse overheid en daarmee zou ook een herziening van het sponsorbeleid gepaard gaan.

RBS is ook een belangrijke geldschieter in de golfsport, rugby, paardensport en in het tennis. Een woordvoerder van de bank wilde geen commentaar geven op de gevolgen van een overname voor de sportsponsoring. De waarde van het contract met RBS met Williams, dat nog tot 2010 loopt, wordt geschat op veertien miljoen dollar, ongeveer 9,5 miljoen euro.
