De financiële wereld verkeert in een wereldwijde crisis, overal gaan de beursen onderuit en overheden moeten ingrijpen om banken overeind te houden. Voor een van geld afhankelijke sport als de Formule 1 geen goed scenario. Het team van Renault hoeft in ieder geval niet te vrezen, het sponsorbedrag van hoofdsponsor ING blijft onaangetast.

Een woordvoerder van de Nederlandse bank verklaarde tegenover F1Today.nl: Het sponsorprogramma van ING in de Formule 1 ondersteunt onze bedrijfsdoelstellingen op de lange termijn. Deze doelstellingen zijn niet veranderd als gevolg van de situatie op de financiële markten.

Wij hebben een overeenkomst met Renault voor drie jaar, dus ook in 2009 zijn wij hoofdsponsor van het Renault Formule 1-team. Wij evalueren de resultaten van onze sponsoring continu en zijn zeer tevreden over de resultaten.
