Klagende Coulthard vindt Heidfeld onsportief

De voorlaatste kwalificatiesessie uit zijn Formule 1-carrière is voor David Coulthard niet positief verlopen. De Red Bull Racing-coureur kwam niet door de eerste schifting heen. Dat kwam niet alleen door het gebrek aan snelheid volgens hem, maar ook door de coureur die hem ophield in zijn snelle ronde: Nick Heidfeld. Coulthard deed op de boordradio al beklag over de Duitser in dienst van BMW doordat Heidfeld hem inhaalde vlak voor het opkomen van het rechte stuk. Coulthard wilde toen zijn snelle ronde inzetten.

David Coulthard: "Ik ben extreem teleurgesteld in wat Nick Heidfeld deed aan het einde van de eerste kwalificatiesessie. Veel coureurs maakten zich klaar voor een laatste snelle ronde en posteerden zich netjes. Alleen Heidfeld ging mij langs de binnenkant voorbij. Dat was niet netjes. Hij ging me voorbij, vlak voordat ik mijn snelle ronde wilde inzetten."

"Het was zeer onlogisch geweest voor hem dat hij zijn tijd had kunnen verbeteren. Hij reed immers op de hardere band en zat aan de vieze kant van de baan. Door mij zo op te jagen en langs de binnenkant van de bocht te gaan zou hij echt geen snellere tijd hebben gereden. Hij maakte de betreffende ronde zelfs niet eens af! Hij zou moeten weten dat hij al in de top tien stond", aldus Coulthard, die zich bestolen voelt. "Het is onsportief gedrag van Heidfeld. Hij had totaal geen intentie om zijn tijd te verbeteren en hij verknalde mijn ronde."

Door het terugvallen van teamgenoot Webber van plaats zeventien start Coulthard morgen als zestiende. Mark Webber hoopt op een regenrace morgen in China: "Helaas gooit zijn straf je vijf startrijen terug op de startopstelling. Het is al lastig genoeg met zo een competitief veld om iemand in te halen. Ik hoop maar dat het morgen gaat regenen."

Hij krijgt 3 plaatsen straf, dus het wordt niet goedgekeurd David. Nu even nog 2 mooie afscheidsraces rijden en dan kun je volgend jaar de boel bij elkaar lullen.
