McLaren gaat in december naar Algarve voor test

Het team van McLaren werkt een van de wintertests af in de Algarve in Portugal. Dat onthulde Paulo Pinheiro, circuitdirecteur van het nieuwe Algarve Motor Park, in de lokale krant The Resident. Over een test van McLaren in december zegt hij: Dat is bijna zeker, maar nog niet.

Pinheiro vervolgt: Het is heel belangrijk dat Formule 1-autos het circuit kunnen gebruiken, want Formule 1 is de hoogste tak van autosport. Het is ook een belangrijk stempel dat we dan krijgen, wij zijn in staat om de Formule 1 te ontvangen op ons circuit.

Maar dat betekent niet automatisch de terugkeer van een Grand Prix binnen de landsgrenzen van Portugal. Wij hebben ons deel gedaan en een Formule 1-waardig circuit gebouwd. Of we een Formule 1-race krijgen is niet aan ons, aldus de circuitdirecteur van Algarve Motor Park.

McLaren heeft inmiddels bevestigd dat het over twee maanden naar Portugal afreist voor een test op het nieuwe circuit. De testsessie is van 15 tot en met 17 december.
