Intensief wintertestprogramma moet Honda vooruit helpen

Het team van Honda zet na opnieuw een kwakkelseizoen alles op alles in de komende winterperiode. In 2009 liggen namelijk kansen door de ingrijpende regelwijzigingen en de Japanse renstal heeft zich tijdens het seizoen ingehouden met testen. Daardoor kan Honda de komende maanden extra kilometers maken in een poging om de aansluiting met de top te vinden.

Teambaas Ross Brawn: We hebben onze testkilometers en banden bewaard voor de wintertests, wat onze prestaties dit seizoen ook wel aantonen. Ik denk dat wij meer banden over hebben dan alle andere teams en dat is het resultaat van een bewuste aanpak. We gaan naar alle drie de wintertests, gaan aan de slag met KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System, red.), gaan werken aan de banden en gaan rijden met de aerodynamische onderdelen voor volgend jaar. Een heel scala aan vernieuwingen waar we de wintertests goed voor kunnen gebruiken.

De presentatiedatum voor de RA109 is nog niet bekend, maar zal ergens in januari plaatsvinden, zo verwacht Brawn. Ik denk dat we net als alle andere teams een vroege versie en late versie zullen hebben. De eerste race heeft laat in maart plaats en bij de presentatie wil niemand zijn geheimen verklappen, dus zal elke renstal met een B-auto komen voor de seizoensopener.
