FIA gaat beslissingen van de stewards uitleggen

Tijdens een bijeenkomst in Parijs heeft de FIA beloofd dat de beslissingen van de stewards volgend jaar beter zullen worden uitgelegd. Deze verklaring heeft vooral te maken met de straf die in Spa-Francorchamps werd uitgedeeld aan Lewis Hamilton, waardoor hij de overwinning verloor aan Felipe Massa. De FIA wil dat vanaf volgend jaar de straffen duidelijker worden voor het publiek.

Elke beslissing zal met ingang van komend seizoen van commentaar worden voorzien op de officiële FIA-website. Tot nu toe werden alleen de beslissingen bevestigd op de website als mededeling, zonder uitleg. Al het videobewijsmateriaal dat voorhanden is, zal worden ingezet om de stewards te helpen bij het objectief beoordelen van incidenten tijdens de race.

Ook zal er bij de replay van de beelden worden aangegeven of er tijdens de race zelf wordt besloten om straffen uit te delen. Het publiek zal voortaan op de hoogte zijn of een coureur niet alleen het risico loopt om tijdens de race een sanctie te krijgen, maar ook na afloop van de race.

Ook besluit de FIA dat stewards volgend jaar moeten worden aangewezen door hun land en de FIA. Hierdoor moeten zij eerst vijf Grands Prix nauwkeurig observeren. Om als steward een zogeheten superlicentie te krijgen, moet minstens één race worden bekeken. Van elke steward zal een beknopt curriculum vitae worden gepubliceerd op de FIA-website.

Er is lang gediscussieerd dat ook een oud-Formule 1-coureur deel uit zou moeten maken van de raceleiding. Voortaan zal het gemakkelijker worden voor oud-coureurs om hun nationale steward-licentie te behouden en eventueel zelfs te gaan voor een super-stewardlicentie.

Tot slot is in Parijs besloten dat een motor vanaf volgend jaar drie in plaats van twee Grands Prix mee moet gaan.
