Force India bevestigt Mercedes officieel als technisch partner

Het kon niet lang op zich laten wachten: vandaag heeft Force India officieel aangekondigd dat ze in McLaren-Mercedes voor 2009 een technische partner heeft gevonden. De overeenkomst houdt in dat de wagen van 2009, de VJM02, zal worden voorzien van Mercedes-motoren en het KERS-systeem van McLaren. Bovendien krijgt de Indiase renstal toegang tot het onderdelennetwerk van de Britse renstal. Vrijdag meldden het team van Force India al dat de overeenkomst met motorleverancier Ferrari vroegtijdig beëindigd werd.

Niet alleen de motoren en het KERS-systeem zullen afkomstig zijn van McLaren, maar ook de versnellingsbak en enkele hydrolische systemen. "We zijn ontzettend blij om aan te mogen kondigen dat we een technische samenwerking met McLaren", zegt Mallya. "Daarnaast is er het plan om onze productie en ontwerpfaciliteiten op de basis nabij Silverstone uit te breiden. McLaren en Mercedes-Benz zijn twee van de grootste namen in de autosportgeschiedenis. Ze hebben over de jaren geweldige reslutaten geboekt, waaronder een geweldige zege in wat waarschijnlijk het spannendste wereldkampioenschap ooit is geweest."

Deze samenwerking met McLaren-Mercedes moet het jonge team van Force India verder helpen richting de middenmoot. Dit seizoen eindigde het Indiase team puntloos als tiende in de WK-stand. "Natuurlijk was het allereerste seizoen van Force India een leerjaar", zegt Mallya. "Maar we zijn hier niet voor niets mee begonnen. Dit is serieus werk, want wij willen er niet zijn om de grid achteraan op te vullen. Deze overeenkomst beklemtoont wat waar we met het team naartoe willen. Hier hebben Bernie Ecclestone en Max Mosley een belangrijke rol bij gespeeld en bij deze wil ik hen dan ook hartelijk bedanken voor hun steun en inzet."

te verwachten na het stoppen van het contract met ferrari. Hopelijk kunnen ze wat want ze zijn telkens helemaal achteraan..
