Canadese Grand Prix komt met reddingsplan van tien miljoen

Een belastingverhoging van één procent op hotelkamers in Montreal moet bijdragen aan de redding van de Canadese Grand Prix. Dat meldt La Presse. De race op het Circuit Gilles Villeneuve werd geschrapt van de kalender voor 2009 vanwege achterstallige betalingen.

De organisatie heeft nu een reddingsplan opgesteld en presenteert dat volgens La Presse donderdag aan Bernie Ecclestone. Hoteleigenaren hebben ingestemd met de belastingverhoging op hotelkamers van drie naar vier procent. Al het extra geld dat die maatregel oplevert gaat naar de Grand Prix van Canada, wat per jaar ongeveer moet neerkomen op vijf miljoen dollar. De overheden van Canada en Quebec stoppen ieder ook 2,5 miljoen dollar in de Grand Prix, waardoor de raceorganisatie de beschikking krijgt over tien miljoen dollar om aan de betaalverplichtingen te voldoen, exclusief de inkomsten uit de race zelf.
