Olivier Panis moet rijbewijs inleveren

Voormalig Formule 1-coureur Olivier Panis heeft na een snelheidsovertreding zijn rijbewijs in moeten leveren. Op weg naar Geneve eerder deze maand werd de Fransman geklokt op 212 kilometer per uur, waar 130 is toegestaan. Naar verluidt heeft de politie ook zijn Ferrari in beslag genomen.

Panis verklaarde tegenover de agenten dat hij ergens een verkeerde afslag heeft genomen, waardoor hij dacht dat hij binnen de regels handelde. Panis moet op 23 maart aanstaande voorkomen bij de rechtbank, alwaar hij de kans krijgt zichzelf opnieuw te verdedigen.

Panis was van 1994 tot eind 2004 actief als Formule 1-coureur, met als hoogtepunt zijn enige overwinning in Monaco 1996. Momenteel bekleed de Fransman een managementfunctie bij het Franse A1GP-team. Panis is echter nooit gestopt met racen. Afgelopen jaar nam hij deel aan enkele races in de Le Mans Series en de 24 uur van Le Mans.
