Klien vindt nieuwe BMW Sauber de lelijkste ooit

Christian Klien vindt het nieuwe uiterlijk van de BMW Sauber van 2009 de lelijkste Formule 1-auto ooit. Gisteren toonde het team in op het Circuit de Catalunya de nieuwe bolide voor het eerst. Het is een totaal ander ontwerp dan de huidige generatie Formule 1-wagens.

Ik heb nog nooit zon prachtige Formule 1-auto gezien, grapte de Oostenrijker. Het ziet er totaal anders uit. Ik vind het persoonlijk de lelijkste Formule 1 auto die ik ooit heb gezien. Maar we gaan hem wel gebruiken. Er zullen zeker nog wel wat veranderingen worden aangebracht voor de eerste race van volgend jaar, zegt Klien.

Klien testte voor het eerst de aerodynamica en vond de auto goed reageren. Het rijdt wel goed eigenlijk. De rondetijden waren meteen al erg goed. Er is een stuk minder downforce, maar de grip van de slicks compenseert dat weer enigszins. In de tragere bochten hebben we heel veel grip met deze banden, maar in de snellere bochten is het erg spannend, vervolgt Klien.

Volgens de BMW Sauber testcoureur was de temperatuur het grootste probleem bij de slicks. Het was niet zo warm vandaag en de slicks hebben het daar vrij moeilijk mee. Dit zijn echter de eerste slicks. Ik weet niet of het zo hoort, maar zelfs in de zomer duurt het lang voordat deze banden goed op temperatuur zijn. Toch vind ik zelf dat het goed is voor de Formule 1 om weer op slicks te gaan rijden. Ik vind het ook beter staan, aldus de Oostenrijker.

Toch denkt Klien niet dat de nieuwe regels de autos dichter bij elkaar brengen op de baan. Ook met deze regels is het nog onmogelijk om dicht achter elkaar te rijden. Dat zullen we wel zien tijdens de eerste races. Iedereen zal zijn voorvleugel ook nog na de eerste bocht willen hebben. Vanmorgen wisten we nog niet zeker of we wel door de laatste chicane konden aangezien de kerbstones daar vrij hoog zijn. Maar dat is geen probleem, besluit Klien.
