McLaren: "KERS gaat volgorde door elkaar schudden"

McLaren-engineer Paddy Lowe verwacht dat de introductie van KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) er in 2009 voor zal zorgen dat de rangorde door elkaar wordt geschud. En niet alleen ten opzichte van dit jaar, maar de volgorde kan volgend jaar per Grand Prix anders zijn. Lowe: Afhankelijk van het circuit zal KERS meer of minder invloed hebben en dus zullen we steeds andere startopstellingen te zien krijgen.

Over de ontwikkeling van het nieuwe systeem zegt de McLaren-engineer: Daar zal elk team volgend jaar continu mee bezig zijn. Wat daarbij wel in de gaten gehouden moet worden is dat de prestatieverbetering beperkt is, aangezien de energie en extra pks gelimiteerd zijn. Dus als je tegen dat plafond aanzit moet je de ontwikkeling richten op het lichter, efficiënter of betrouwbaarder maken van het systeem.
