Ecclestone "Voortbestaan Formule 1 niet in gevaar"

Het vertrek van een van de grootste autofabrikanten ter wereld uit de Formule 1 is voor Bernie Ecclestone geen reden om in paniek te raken. Het verlies van Honda maakt volgens de commerciële baas van de Formule 1 alleen maar de noodzaak voor kostenbesparende maatregelen duidelijk. De toekomst van de sport loopt echter geen gevaar.

Ecclestone vertelde aan de BBC: Ik denk dat de crisis in de Formule 1 niet groter is dan bij elk ander bedrijf. De wereld verkeert in een financiële crisis, maar het zal niet stoppen, de wereld zal niet stoppen. Iedereen werkt als gekken om de noodzaak tot spenderen om competitief te zijn te verminderen. Gisteren nog kwamen technische mensen bijeen om dit te bewerkstelligen. Ik twijfel er ook niet aan dat een drastische kostenreductie aanstaande is.
