Hamilton: "Titelprolongatie moeilijker door nieuwe regels"

McLaren-coureur Lewis Hamilton won dit jaar zijn eerste wereldkampioenschap Formule 1, maar of hij die titel volgend jaar prolongeert is verre van vanzelfsprekend. Niet alleen vanwege de hevige concurrentie, maar ook door de nieuwe regels die omwille van kostenbesparingen zijn ingevoerd. De doorgaans zelfverzekerde Hamilton kent ook twijfels.

Ik denk niet dat de nieuwe regels titelprolongatie makkelijker maken. Het wordt heel zwaar om opnieuw het kampioenschap te winnen. We gaan drastisch minder testen. Ik denk echter dat we een goed team hebben dat naar elkaar toe kan groeien om op een andere manier het verschil te maken. Bovendien is de situatie voor iedereen gelijk.

Het is ongelofelijk om te zien hoeveel in een jaar kan veranderen in deze sport. Het enige waar we mee bezig zijn is doorgaan, proberen een mooie show op te voeren en hopen dat we als team kunnen blijven winnen. Wie volgend jaar snel zal zijn is nog moeilijk te voorspellen. Wij doen zeker vooraan mee, Ferrari waarschijnlijk ook en BMW Sauber. En misschien voegen zich daar nog andere teams bij, aldus Hamilton tegenover Associated Press.
