Ecclestone: "Indiase coureurs wel degelijk klaar voor Formule 1"

In een interview met de Indiase krant The Hindustan Times heeft Formule 1-baas Bernie Ecclestone aangegeven dat hij het oneens is met Force India-teambaas Vijay Mallya wat betreft Indias racetalent. Mallya heeft er nooit een geheim van gemaakt een Indiase coureur achter het stuur van een van zijn bolides te willen zien. De huidige generatie rijders, en dan met name Narain Karthikeyan en Karun Chandhok, zou volgens de Indier daar niet klaar voor zijn.

Ecclestone, die graag in 2011 een Grand Prix in India zou willen organiseren, spreekt die bewering tegen. De tijd is bijna rijp voor een Grand Prix in India, iets waar ik zelf enorm enthousiast over ben. En hopelijk kan Karun daar een rol in spelen. Hij hoort gewoon in de Formule 1 thuis, aldus de 78-jarige Brit.
