Anthony Davidson had zicht op nieuwe kans bij Honda

Anthony Davidson maakt sinds eind april 2008 geen deel meer uit van de Formule 1-grid. Na de Grand Prix van Spanje ging zijn werkgever Super Aguri failliet. De Engelsman was eind vorig jaar dicht bij een terugkeer bij het team van Honda. De onderhandelingen waren in vergevorderd stadium, maar de Japanse autofabrikant trok zich in december terug.

Davidson vertelde op de Autosport international Show: Ik was serieus in gesprek met het team, niet alleen over een racestoeltje, maar ook over de rol van reservecoureur. De onderhandelingen liepen goed en mijn terugkeer was bijna bezegeld met een paar weken te gaan tot de bekendmaking. Nu wacht mij hetzelfde lot als Jenson Button.

Wat de Formule 1 betreft, daar zijn de kansen zeer klein voor mij. Je mag nooit de hoop opgeven, maar ik ben realistisch en heb geleerd van de afgelopen jaren. Ik hou van racen en ik hoef niet lang na te denken over aanbiedingen uit andere series. Op mijn leeftijd kijk je als coureur eerst naar de Formule 1 en daarna naar elke kans om als professioneel coureur door te gaan.
