Sebastien Buemi waakt voor te hoge verwachtingen

Sebastien Buemi hoopt niet dat mensen verwachten dat hij meteen hetzelfde presteert bij Scuderia Toro Rosso als Sebastian Vettel in het afgelopen seizoen. De Zwitser debuteert eind maart als racecoureur in de Formule 1 en wil rustig aan zijn nieuwe werkomgeving en aan het hogere niveau wennen. Buemi: Het is belangrijk om de voeten op de grond te houden en niet teneergeslagen te raken als de gewenste resultaten niet meteen komen.

Hij vervolgt: Het wordt een zwaar seizoen en iedereen van het team gaat keihard aan de slag om er het beste van te maken in deze sport die te boek staat als de koningsklasse van de autosport. We moeten gewoon realistisch blijven. Natuurlijk zal de druk in de Formule 1 groter zijn, maar daar heb ik geen probleem mee. Het zal alleen wel even tijd nodig hebben om in het juiste ritme te komen, dat doe je niet in een paar raceweekenden.

Op dit moment is het moeilijk om doelstellingen te formuleren, je weet nooit of er aan het begin van het seizoen verrassingen aandienen. Het team wil ongetwijfeld minstens net zo goed presteren als in 2008, al wordt dat een loodzware opgave. Persoonlijk wil ik ten minste mijn teamgenoot verslaan.
