Toyota richt vizier volledig op eerste overwinning

Voor het team van Toyota telt dit jaar maar één ding. De Japanse renstal moet in 2009 haar eerste overwinning in de Formule 1 behalen. De autofabrikant begon in 2002 met een ambitieus project en dichtte zichzelf al snel winstkansen toe. Zeven jaar later heeft Toyota nog altijd geen winnaar geleverd.

Dus is het doel voor komend seizoen duidelijk. Toyota-directeur John Howett: De doelstelling voor ons is helder, wij willen voor het eerst een race winnen. Om dat te bereiken dienen we ons in een goede positie te brengen door regelmatig op het podium te eindigen en vaak punten scoren.

Teambaas Tadashi Yamashina vult hem aan: Ons doel is om dit jaar de eerste zege voor Toyota in de Formule 1 in de wacht te slepen. Toen ik begon als teambaas stippelde ik een jarenplan uit. Eerst een jaar observeren, daarna een jaar verbeteren en vervolgens successen boeken. Dit wordt mijn derde jaar, dus ik wil ons een Grand Prix zien winnen. Uiteraard hebben we dat de voorbije jaren ook geprobeerd, maar het is ons nog niet gelukt. De doelstellingen voor Toyota zijn voor elke race: proberen te winnen en anders op het podium eindigen.
