Coureurs boos vanwege nieuwe stijging superlicentiekosten

De coureurs weigeren hun handtekening te zetten onder de nieuwe superlicenties. De rijders zijn boos vanwege een nieuwe stijging in de kosten van het vereiste papiertje om Formule 1 te rijden, zo meldt autosport.com. Vorig jaar was er al grote onrust nadat de internationale autosportbond FIA de prijzen opdreef naar 10.000 euro vast en 2.000 euro per punt.

Die kosten bedragen voor dit jaar 10.400 euro vast en 2.100 euro per punt, in combinatie met een verzekeringsbijdrage van 2.720 euro. Zodoende komt het bedrag dat wereldkampioen Lewis Hamilton voor zijn superlicentie moet betalen op 218.920 euro. De prijsstijging is een gevolg van inflatie, maar de Grand Prix Drivers Association (GPDA) is er niet over te spreken.

De coureurs hebben de FIA al verzocht om een gesprek en FIA-president Max Mosley staat daar wel voor open, met de voorwaarde dat hij de salarissen van de rijders te zien krijgt om te beoordelen of de prijs echt te hoog is. De GPDA heeft daarop de FOTA ingeschakeld en de teams zullen deze kwestie op 3 februari bespreken. De rijdersvakbond heeft de coureurs opgeroepen om minstens tot die datum te wachten met het ondertekenen van de superlicentie.
