Frank Williams: "Kostenbesparingen redde mijn team"

Frank Williams heeft bekend dat de kostenbesparende maatregelen mogelijk de redding is geweest voor zijn team. De financiële crisis heeft een enorme invloed gehad op het team. Baugur en RBS kregen ernstige problemen en ook Petrobras en Lenovo beëindigden het sponsorcontract met Williams.

Williams: "Gezien de financiële crisis waar we midden in zitten, heeft Williams enorm geprofiteerd van de kostenbesparende maatregelen. Om succes te hebben en in de sport actief te blijven moeten we ook financieel gezond blijven. We hebben de afgelopen twee, drie jaar verlies gedraaid, maar we hebben de reserves en de middelen omdat de baas te blijven."

Williams is sinds eind jaren zeventig actief in de Formule 1 en vierde vele successen. Het laatste kampioenschap dateert van 1997, toen Jacques Villeneuve de rijderstitel binnenhaalde.
