McLaren: "De druk is nu van de schouders van Hamilton"

McLaren-directeur Martin Whitmarsh neemt op 1 maart de taken van Ron Dennis als teambaas over. Vanaf dat moment draagt hij alle verantwoordelijkheid voor de prestaties op de baan. Die waren vorig jaar ternauwernood nog positief. Lewis Hamilton pakte op het nippertje zijn eerste wereldtitel in de laatste race van het seizoen.

Tot opluchting van Whitmarsh, zo liet hij aan The Guardian weten. Als Lewis geen kampioen was geworden, dan had dat heel zwaar geweest voor het team, niet eens zozeer voor hemzelf. McLaren zou in dat geval een donkere winter tegemoet zijn gegaan. Begrijp me niet verkeerd, ook Lewis zou psychologisch getest zijn en zich afvragen of het ooit nog zou lukken. Maar zijn loopbaan is nog jong, hij zou zich daar wel van herstellen. Veel sneller in ieder geval dan Ron of ik.

Maar de titel werd wel gepakt en dat kan komend seizoen een voordeel betekenen. Nogmaals Whitmarsh: 2009 wordt een intrigerend jaar voor ons allemaal. Lewis droomde al van zijn achtste over de Formule 1-wereldtitel en men mag het effect van het bereiken van die droom op zon jonge leeftijd niet onderschatten. Daarentegen heeft Lewis zelf al het juiste antwoord gegeven op de vraag hoe het nu verder moet. Hij wil opnieuw kampioen worden om aan te tonen dat hij een waardig kampioen is. Hij kan sowieso doen wat hij wil, want de druk is nu van zijn schouders.

Hmm, ik weet niet hoor, nu hij kampioen is wordt natuurlijk ook weer veel van \'m verwacht. We zullen zien...

ik ben beniewd hoe mclaren er voor staat en hoe goed hamelten echt is .mischien is ie wel kampioen geworden door alonso .ik weet dat ie niet aan de auto van voorig jaar heeft geleuteld maar zijn inbreng was het jaar daarvoor toch groot en de basis was goed om op door te ontwikkelen .en dat alonso autos echt beter maakt heeft ie vorig jaar weer eens bewezen . en dit is de eerste auto wat ie zelf moet doen en door ontwikkelen ik ben benieuwd
