Franse senaat steunt plannen voor nieuw Formule 1-circuit

De Franse senaat heeft toestemming gegeven voor de bouw van een nieuw Formule 1-circuit in de buurt van Parijs, schrijft LEquipe. Vier senators initieerden de actie om de bureaucratische rompslomp te omzeilen en vanaf 2011 een Franse Grand Prix in de buurt van Flins-sur-Seine in het departement Yvelines, ongeveer veertig minuten rijden van Parijs, te houden.

Frankrijk staat in 2009 en 2010 niet op de Formule 1-kalender omdat er geen geschikte locatie is gevonden om Magny-Cours te vervangen. Die moet er nu dus komen bij Flins-sur-Seine. De senators verklaarden: Als de constructie en de organisatie op tijd worden geregeld, dan kan er in 2011 weer een Grand Prix in Frankrijk plaatsvinden. Een sponsor voor het project is nog niet gevonden en het idee moet ook nog goedgekeurd worden door Bernie Ecclestone en de internationale autosportbond FIA.
