Senna wil contract op basis van talent, niet geld

Bruno Senna zet al zijn kaarten op een debuut in de Formule 1 in 2009. De Braziliaan was kandidaat bij het team van Honda, maar de Japanse autofabrikant heeft zich teruggetrokken. Het is onduidelijk of de renstal blijft bestaan. Senna weet het zelf ook niet, maar hij waagt wel de gok door te wachten op de redding van het team.

Op Crash.net Radio zegt hij: Het kwam voor ons als een grote verrassing dat Honda stopte. Tijdens mijn testweek bij het team deed niets vermoeden dat ze het moeilijk hadden. Daarna is het snel gegaan. Jammer, want ik was tevreden met mijn prestaties tijdens die test. Ik had waarschijnlijk nog een keer terug moeten komen, maar het gevoel was goed.

Nu is het moeilijk te zeggen of het team een koper zal vinden. De economische situatie helpt niet mee. Het is vrij stil voor februari, het seizoen is niet ver weg meer. Ik heb geen idee wat er momenteel met het team gebeurt. Ik hoop dat het goed komt en dat ze in de Formule 1 blijven, niet alleen voor mezelf, maar voor de sport in zijn algemeen.

Over zijn eigen situatie: Ik ga in ieder geval geen geld bijeen rapen om me in te kopen. Ik voel me meer op mijn gemak bij een team dat coureurs aantrekt vanwege hun resultaten en niet vanwege de meegebrachte sponsors. Bij Honda waren ze positief over me, al heb ik mijn weinige ervaring niet mee. En zeker in deze situatie, waarbij het team waarschijnlijk niet zal testen als ze al blijven bestaan. Maar ik ben een snelle leerling en ik denk dat ik dan na een moeizame eerste fase in de tweede seizoenshelft goed kan presteren.
