Vettel: "Met Red Bull Racing wil ik in 2009 races winnen"

Bij de presentatie van de nieuwe RB5 op het Spaanse circuit van Jerez sprak coureur Sebastian Vettel over het doel van 2009: het winnen van races. De Duitser, de jongste Grand Prix-winnaar ooit, hoopt zijn prestaties van afgelopen seizoen te kunnen overtreffen. En met de nieuwe bolide van de hand van ontwerper Adrian Newey denkt hij dat dit moet lukken. Het doel dit jaar is winnen, zegt Vettel.

Met zusterteam Scuderia Toro Rosso scoorde de nog maar 19-jarige Duitser zijn eerste overwinning uit zijn carrière. Weinigen geloven dat het daarbij zal blijven. Momenteel is het natuurlijk nog te vroeg om te verklaren dat ik wereldkampioen zal worden, maar dat wil ik zeker wel. Maar we moeten ook nog maar zien waar we staan ten opzichte van de concurrentie. De nieuwe regels geven in mijn opzicht wel gelegenheid om het gat met de toppers als McLaren en Ferrari te dichten.

Eerlijkheidshalve gaf Vettel toe dat hij nog even nodig denkt te hebben voordat hij volledig geacclimatiseerd is bij zijn nieuwe werkgever Red Bull Racing. Dat heeft even tijd nodig, maar nu is de tijd rijp om met de nieuwe wagen te gaan werken. Vanaf eind vorig jaar ben ik de jongens van het team al gaan leren kennen en die band is nu best goed.

Het is nog te vroeg om een indruk te geven van de potentie van de nieuwe RB5, denkt de Duitser. Pas wanneer ik wat rondjes heb gereden met de nieuwe bolide kan ik jullie een indruk geven, maar daarvoor is het nu nog iets te vroeg. Van de buitenkant vind ik het echter een erg mooie auto. Maar de snelheid op de baan is natuurlijk waar het allemaal om draait.

Vettel zal wel winnen als de auto goed is. In mijn ogen is hij minstens evengoed of Hamilton. Ooit moet hij naar Ferrari komen. 2011: Alonso-Vettel. Schitterend zou dat zijn. tegen Hamilton-Rosberg bij McLaren.

  Alonso zou dan alleen maar weer gaan klagen omdat hij dan om de oren word gereden door Vettel, dus zo geweldig lijkt me dat niet.

Vettel zal heus wel gaan winnen in de toekomst in de RB5 maar alles heeft zijn tijd nodig... en Alonso in 2011 Ferrari dan krijg een beginnend coereur bij Renault een zitje van 2011 tot 2012 want in 2012 rijd Alonso weer voor Renault en de rede is ieder nu al bekend
